Vonage is a Voice over IP telephone company that is growing very quickly. I signed up with them for my business line about a year ago. A co-worker had recommended Vonage and was very pleased with their price and quality. I would be able to keep my same telephone number, and the monthly cost would go from $30-$40 down to only $15.00!
I did have to purchage equipment at first - I think it cost me around $70.00. A funny thing happened with the equipment. When it was delivered via UPS, it was left on the porch and we didn't find it for several days. Several wet, rainy days. Even though the package was shrink wrapped, it still got wet inside. I dried it all out and tried to get it to work, but I never could. When I called Vonage about it (they have GREAT customer service) they shipped me another telephone router and I simply shipped the waterlogged one back in the same box they shipped the second one to me in.
They also put a Vonage baseball cap in with the second box. I was very impressed with their willingness to do this because I figured that it was my fault that the first box had gotten left out and gotten wet.
With a working router, the install was a piece of cake. I plugged it into my DSL modem and loaded the software, and it began to work. I had dialtone across the internet!
Well after using it very many months (I love their web based control panel that lets me forward the number to my cellphone, and see all calls, both incoming and outgoing in real time) I needed a second line. My mother-in-law, who had recently fallen and injured herself (she is 70 years old) had come to live with us. She was used to paying several hundered dollars a month in long distance charges, and when I told her about Vonage's unlimited minutes for only $24.95 a month, she was very interested!
And when I found out and told her that she could keep her same phone number - she was sold!
This time there were no equipment problems, no waiting on shipping, no nothing. The router they had sent me had a jack for a second line in it, and I simply had to get on the website, and order the second line with her number.
It began working as soon as my credit card went through.
All in all, I am very happy with Vonage and I recommend their telephone service to anyone!
